Overview:
Axle is seeking a highly ambitious, adaptable, structured, and detail-oriented Bioinformatics Scientist to join our vibrant team to provide services in support of the overall functions of the VRC/VPP.
Technical Requirements:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand user requirements and generate specifications for software platform(s) that address evolving program needs.
- Develop computer code for reliable data visualization dashboards and analysis pipelines.
- Develop computer code for extraction and transformation of data from existing platforms.
- Develop computer code for data reduction, storage, and retrieval.
- Maintain and effectively utilize existing IT infrastructure, as well as working with IT staff to expand capabilities when necessary.
- Write clear usage, developer, and other reference documentation.
- Contribute to the implementation of sound development and data management practices.
- Assist training of junior data scientists to utilize custom APIs and other software tools.
- Drive increased adoption of quantitative modeling / advanced data analysis tools by VPP staff, including but not limited to one-on-one and group training in data science, data engineering, and related technologies.
Specific Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Bioinformatics or Computer Science is required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of related experience is required.
- Proficient in Python and JavaScript, delivering clean, robust, and well-documented code.
- Experience in designing and developing sophisticated, modern web applications and services.
- Experience with relational databases.
Preferred
- Experience developing Django web applications and services.
- Working experience with JavaScript frameworks such as Jquery, Angular, or ReactJS.
- Experience creating and/or using web services and RESTful APIs.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Proficient understanding of Git version control system.
- Semantic markup and modern web layout techniques.
- Qunit / Selenium testing.
- Unix / Linux system administration.
- Experience with Visual Basic / Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).
- Experience with agile development paradigms.
