Located within the Office of College & Career Success (OCCS), the Office of School Counseling and Postsecondary Advising (OSCPA) ensures that school counseling teams have the support and resources necessary to implement comprehensive school counseling programs that advance the academic, personal/social, and career development of all students. OSCPA is comprised of the following teams: school counseling, college and career specialists, scholarships, and postsecondary initiatives. All provide professional development and support to school counselors, college and career coaches, and school administrators at the school level.


Job Summary: The Scholarship Manager will own and drive the K-12 Scholarship program within the Office of School Counseling and Postsecondary Advising (OSCPA) in the Office of College and Career Success. This position will provide a premier program that contributes to the development of a solid financial plan to cover the cost of college attendance for all college-bound CPS students with a comprehensive college and career plan. The Scholarship Manager will report to the Director of Alumni Persistence.

The Scholarship Manager will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

Collaborate with Executive Director, Central Office partners, Networks, and school staff to develop and drive annual Office scholarship strategic objectives and performance targets. Lead, supervise, and develop a team directly supporting scholarship work. Develop systems and strategies that address scholarships for all students matriculating to college.Collaborate within and across CPS departments to ensure seamless integration of key initiatives with broader CPS practices and technology. Serve as the district’s primary contact for Scholarships. Identify strategies that ensure that the scholarship program aligns with district priorities, policies, and key performance indicators. Provide scholarship guidance and planning support to OSCPA, Networks, and schools. Create presentations and resources for varied audiences including senior leaders, network leaders and teams, and school leaders and teams. Oversee and manage the Academic Works Scholarship district tool. Coordinate the awards and scholarship process for the district. Oversee the timeline for advertising and accepting award/scholarship nominations/applications. Update award application(s) as needed, working with the web and social media coordinator to post the most recent version on the district website. Establish and nurture partnerships with strategic scholarship providers. Identify potential nominees, solicit applications, and convene selection committees to review nominations/applications and select winners. Serve as the liaison to the Office of Communications as it relates to Scholarships. Coordinate ceremonies and events for the presentation of awards and scholarships, including ordering plaques, writing presentation scripts, recruiting award presenters, and any other announcements or publications, as appropriate for each award/scholarship. Communicate with Networks, schools, and nominees/applicants, regarding scholarships and scholarship events, as appropriate. Communicate with program planners and the business manager about scholarships to ensure that recipients are promptly processed and registered for programs. Other duties and workstreams as assigned.


In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Scholarship Manager must possess the following qualifications: 

Education Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Business, or a related field from an accredited university is required Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred

Experience Required:

Minimum of five (5) years of professional postsecondary advising/program experience, including the following, is required: Experience driving multiple complex projects within a large organization Experience leading a team of direct reports Experience directly supporting scholarship programs, strongly preferred


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strategic and project planning capabilities, including ability to establish long-term vision and goals, and experience managing toward execution of goals. Ability to lead teams united around a clear vision for serving schools and achieving student success. Strong analytical, systems thinking, and problem-solving capabilities Self-starter with the ability to conduct multiple projects concurrently, both independently and as a member of a collaborative team Ability to learn and adapt quickly amidst new and shifting priorities. Exceptional written and verbal communication and strong organizational skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to communicate research and analysis findings to a broad range of audiences including school staff, network staff, central office staff, funders, policymakers, and senior management Ability to function effectively in a large, complex organization Capable of developing effective professional learning activities Some knowledge of school counseling and postsecondary advising best practices, and a passion for improving urban public education Technology skills including use of software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of CPS data systems preferred


Conditions of Employment

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:

Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.

Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 - Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. “Up-to-date” on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters.
