As a Laboratory Technician Assistant/Rapid Responder, you'll find yourself at the forefront of emergency response and natural disaster situations. You'll provide essential support for environmental and hazardous materials incidents, all while enjoying the freedom to set your own availability schedule. This dynamic role is fast-paced and challenging, demanding quick thinking, impeccable communication skills, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Given the nature of emergency response, flexibility is key, as workload variations can be significant throughout the year.

Furthermore, as a Laboratory Technician Assistant, you'll be responsible for performing tasks vital to supporting laboratory functions and generating crucial data. The ideal candidate will possess foundational knowledge in biology and chemistry, coupled with an eagerness to acquire new laboratory skills. You'll undergo training to uphold safety conditions, driven by a passion for contributing to progress through your work.

Responsibilities:
  • Respond quickly and efficiently to emergency and natural disaster situations, with on-call availability 24/7 after specified trainings and advanced qualification levels. The Operations team will contact you for mobilization needs based on client requirements and your qualification level.
  • Provide support for environmental and hazardous materials incidents, specializing in air monitoring while also proficient in areas such as moisture mapping, general site safety, and environmental sampling.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all work performed, utilizing our in-house data collection app. Above-average aptitude with technology is essential for project-related documentation.
  • Conduct sample extractions and prepare reagents for lab use and/or shipment, including agar plate making and cleaning laboratory glassware and areas.
  • Maintain organized records of sample preparation and analysis, perform basic pH and osmolarity testing of samples and solutions, and contribute to overhead projects designed to enhance efficiency or accuracy of analyses.
  • Assist Group Leaders and analysts in acquiring and inventorying consumables, chemicals, and parts for instrumentation.
  • Ensure compliance with Enthalpy's Quality Assurance Program and other policies, as well as adherence to Enthalpy's Health and Safety Plan.
  • Fulfill any other duties as assigned by Group Leaders or the Technical Director.

Job Type: Part-time/temporary The activity and working hours of this part-time/temporary position depend on the amount of available work. Hours are not guaranteed. The position is part-time/temporary, so benefits are not offered.

Compensation
  • Project Pay Rate: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour.
  • Limited Project Pay Rate: $19.00 - $24.00 per hour.
  • Training Pay Rate: $16.00 per hour or other applicable local minimum wage.
  • Potential extensive overtime opportunities at 1.5 or higher pay multipliers.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to respond in a timely manner to all communications from his/her supervisor or other designated company representative;
  • Ability to operate, diagnose, and service, without oversight, assigned real-time equipment (equipment training provided);
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a matrix reporting structure;
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal directions; and,
  • Possess a minimum of Professional Working Proficiency in verbal and written communication skills in the English language.

  • Prior Laboratory experience preferred but not required as this is an entry level position
  • Knowledge of analytical method, analytical instruments, general lab practices and lab safety

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & CREDENTIALS
  • Required: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent;
  • Functional or higher computer literacy skills in a Windows-based environment required;
  • Experience and/or proficiency with industrial hygiene equipment desirable;
  • Experience using air and environmental sampling equipment desirable; and,
  • Relevant experience in emergency response, environmental response, construction management, building trades, administrative roles, etc. are desirable.
  • Basic laboratory techniques (knowledge of PPE, use of balance, pipetting, glassware handling, etc)
  • Basic Excel skills required
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a current valid, unrestricted driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a company-supplied pre-employment physical and annual physicals thereafter which include an illicit drug screen. Ability to pass a Respirator Fit Test and be medically cleared and certified to work in HAZWOPER sites as required under 29 CFR 1910.120.
  • Ability to complete HAZWOPER certification and related safety training.
  • Ability to obtain DISA clearance.
  • Ability to obtain TWIC clearance.
  • Ability to complete all assigned job specific OSHA training and clearances (including annual training renewals) to ensure continuous response readiness.
  • Ability to obtain a passport and travel internationally.

FREQUENT:
  • Sitting, standing, and walking;
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds several times a day;
  • Overhead lifting of over 20 pounds;

  • Keyboarding/typing;
  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen, sampling device, and/or paper copy;
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment;
  • Frequent, unscheduled travel for extended periods of time; and,
  • Wear half-face and/or full-face air purifying respirator (APR) as well as supplied air respirators in the form of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and hose supplied respirator with medical clearance as required under 29CFR 1910.134.
OCCASIONAL:
  • Ability to drive noncommercial vehicles;
  • Rarely may work shifts of up to 24 hours in duration;
  • Dress out in physically demanding personal protective equipment (PPE) for site entry at HAZWOPER sites as required under 29CFR 1910.120; and
  • Wear partially or totally encapsulating personal protective equipment.
