Position Summary:

The School Age Education Specialist supports the implementation of appropriate and effective academic programs for members ages 6 to 12. S/he assists the Education Director and/or School Age Education Coordinator in the delivery of academic programming. Major responsibility is to support the implementation of developmentally appropriate literacy, STEM, and homework help programming. This is done through high yield and targeted programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·Implement year round education programs, activities, and events as directed by Education Director and/or School Age Education Coordinator that adhere to the Common Core State Standards, 21 Century Skills, BGCB Ed Standards, and BGCB Education practices as directed by the supervisor

·Coordinate an academic incentive system for the school age education department

·Facilitate targeted STEM and/or Literacy programming

·Support Club level School Age Education Department goals, which adhere to BGCB academic program activity standards as determined each year by Club leadership, Club Education Team, BGCB Education Team, and Director of Academic Success.

·Supervision and discipline of club members participating in programs and services within the program area as well as throughout the clubhouse as appropriate.

·Implement and participate in collaborative programs and events with BGCB Education staff and Program Partners

·Actively participate in BGCB Formula for Impact: Academic Success Initiatives. Which include collaborative team projects and program support from the Director of Academic Success. As well as participate in on – going professional development (trainings, 1 to 1 coaching sessions, observations, and supervision) from the Director of Academic Success.

·Maintain a high level of professional communication both internally and externally

·Maintain knowledge or trends in education – specific programming, career exploration, professional development, and curriculum design

·Maintain a safe, clean, effective, and academically enriching environment.

·Travel between sites and to activities as needed

·Other related duties as assigned.

General BGCB Expectations :

· - Assessing our impact is critical to our work. All staff is expected to participate in various evaluation efforts throughout each program year, including the annual member survey.

· – Teaching youth/teens the importance of living an active, healthy lifestyle is a BGCB priority. As a result, all staff is expected to model healthy behavior while working with our members.

· – BGCB values creating child-friendly environments, where youth/teens of all abilities can be successful and participate. BGCB expects employees to embrace its focus on inclusion of all members, regardless of disability or developmental challenge.

· – Building the capacity of staff is central to BGCB. The organization encourages and requires that all staff participates in annual professional development opportunities that continue to cultivate their skills in the youth development field.

· – Every staff member shares the responsibility for ensuring BGCB is, and remains, an environment free of sexual, physical, or emotional abuse.

Position Requirements (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Work Demands )

·High school degree or GED required

·Direct experience providing education and/or academic support programs for youth

·Knowledge of youth development principles

·Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.

·MS Office and web competency preferred.

·Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds.

·Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

·Flexibility to work clubhouse hours especially as seasons and service needs change.

·Valid Massachusetts driver’s license preferred.
