Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducts comprehensive psychological assessments and presents findings in an oral and written format.
  • Provides individual and group therapy to designated special needs students, promoting social-emotional growth and development.
  • Responds to crisis situations, providing support and intervention as needed.
  • Screens referrals in conjunction with other designated school personnel, ensuring timely and effective support for students.
  • Participates in the prereferral process, collaborating with teachers and other stakeholders to identify student needs.
  • Consults regularly with classroom teachers regarding special needs students, providing guidance and support to ensure student success.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the District Principal or the Director of Special Education, contributing to the overall well-being and academic achievement of students.

Qualifications:

  1. Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education licensure as a School Psychologist.
  2. Experience working with diverse populations, including students from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  3. Licensed as a Psychologist in Massachusetts, with a strong understanding of psychological principles and practices.
  4. M.Ed. in School Psychology, with a focus on assessment, intervention, and consultation.
  5. Knowledge of integration and inclusive models of instruction, differentiated instruction, and response to intervention.
  6. Ability to perform and interpret psychological evaluations, including projectives, and provide individual and small group therapy to school-age students.
  7. Knowledge of special education programs and regulations, with a commitment to ensuring compliance and best practices.
  8. Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual Spanish, with the ability to communicate effectively with students and families.
  • Experience working in a school setting, with a strong understanding of educational policies and procedures.

Terms:

All teachers are members of the Chelsea Teachers Union (CTU). The length of the school day is 6.5 hours, but subject to longer hours for schools with extended day. The number of school days are 185 days.
