SUMMARY

The Fine Arts Specialist is to work with teachers to improve instructional practice and student academic achievement. The incumbent will be assigned to provide services to buildings. 

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work with elementary and secondary fine arts teachers to develop and implement the District’s instrumental/vocal music and art programs Organize and coordinate district-wide instrumental/vocal music and art programs Plan and implement staff development on the Ohio State Standards for fine arts education in conjunction with the implementation of the standards in the district’s core curriculum. Plan and implement staff development for teachers on standards-based lesson planning and classroom management for fine arts classes. Plan and conduct fine arts faculty meetings. Implement technical and cognitive coaching skills to assist fine arts teachers with the implementation of standards-based lessons and reflection upon lessons taught. Serve as a resource for fine arts teachers on integrating music, art, and performing arts education into the core curriculum  The position requires travel between schools within the district. Occasional evening and weekend work for events and professional development sessions. Work with site administrators to develop balanced fine arts programs in all schools Assist site administrators in evaluating fine arts teachers Implement elementary fine arts teacher assignments including marching band fundamentals Compile data pertaining to fine arts class enrollment and assist in the scheduling of fine arts classes Prepare and monitor the discretionary fine arts budget and review all expenditures Maintain an inventory of District-owned musical instruments for the music programs in the district and allocate instruments to schools Maintain an inventory of District-owned art supplies and materials for the art programs in the district and allocate materials to schools Arrange for the repair and replacement of musical instruments Maintain and expand the music library for elementary music teachers Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S. A Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a current Teaching License within the content area and supervisory/administrator certification/licensure or ability to obtain an Alternative Administrators License. Master’s Degree preferred. A Minimum of five years teaching experience in the content area. Urban classroom/administrative experience preferred. Perform at a semi professional level on a major instrument (preferred) Record keeping practices, including those needed for budget administration Knowledge and experience with research-based, effective instructional practices. Curriculum development experience preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting. Knowledge of the district’s curriculum, state standards and state assessment systems.

PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES/DEMANDS

Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, stoop, and climb stairs Occasionally lift and/or move lightweight items up to 40 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work will be split between home office and school buildings Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue Work may be subject to frequent interruptions Some assignments are subject to completion within strict timelines Travel for meetings, professional development activities, and work assignments
