Overview

The Vermont Agency of Education (AOE) is looking for a specialist to join our Special Education Programs team as an Education Programs Coordinator II - Inclusive Systems. This person would work with our Special Education team and provide expertise in the areas of inclusive systemic structures to support students with disabilities in the general education environment. This is an inherently collaborative position that supports the Student Support Services Division and works closely with the Multi-Tiered System of Supports Team. This position coordinates the Statewide Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) and the State Systemic Improvement Plan (SSIP), a federal grant and a required statewide continuous improvement process working to improve the academic performance of students with disabilities.

We are seeking candidates with considerable skills and experience in supporting students who qualify for special education to succeed in the general education environment. A strong candidate will demonstrate experience providing evidence-based support to leadership teams in implementing systems to support the inclusion of the whole child into the general education environment.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Serve as a content expert and as a resource to educational and other programs and groups concerned with improving their Multi-Tiered System of Supports and Special Education systems
  • Provide statewide leadership in evidence-based programming for systems change that supports all students that includes best practices in systemic improvement science, and implementing change ideas
  • Write and manage requests for proposals (RFPs) and contracts for the hiring of external coaches.
  • Assign work to and observe external academic and system support coaches
  • Present and report data to key community partners
  • Cross division collaboration
  • Plan and coordinate professional learning /trainings, quarterly networking days, and one mandated annual conference
  • Author yearly report to the U.S. Department of Education's OSEP, and to the State of Vermont AOE on outcomes resulting from the implementation of the SSIP and SPDG throughout Vermont

This position is open to a substantial amount of remote work based within Vermont and contiguous states but will require in-office functions, as determined by the Secretary. Some field work may be required.

Environmental Factors

Work is generally performed in a standard office setting, but significant travel may be anticipated for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal work schedule may be required. There may be considerable interaction with a variety of publics and strong differences of opinion may be encountered.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in education, public administration, or related field AND five (5) years or more at a professional level education, program development, or leadership role in a public or private educational institution.
OR
Three (3) years or more as an Education Programs Coordinator I with the State of Vermont.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree.
