About the Position

The Facility Maintenance Coordinator oversees and coordinates facility maintenance to ensure the safe operation and functionality of Human Services facilities and partner locations. This includes managing preventive maintenance schedules, coordinating repairs and renovations, and overseeing vendor relationships. The position also maintains records relating to safety audits, playground and classroom compliance, and vehicles.

This position requires working Monday through Friday, from 5:30 AM to 2:30 PM, with occasional weekend availability as needed.

We Require

Two years of experience performing semi-skilled trades tasks

High school diploma or GED

Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license at the time of hire and have a clean Motor Vehicle Department record (MVR)

Must complete Playground Inspector within one year of hire (coordinated and paid by Maricopa County)

State criminal background investigation must be completed before hiring, and a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card must be secured

Must be able to pass a medical exam that includes screening for TB, as required by Federal and State regulations, to be free of communicable disease and must have received the following vaccinations: (MMR) Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Tetanus if not current, to assure no significant risk exists to the health or safety of others

Coordinate Facility Maintenance Activities, including the development and implementation of maintenance procedures and protocols to ensure the effective operation

Responsible for performing a wide range of repair and replacement tasks in Head Start classrooms to maintain integrity and notification systems and perform handyman-type repairs in the classroom and playground

Plan and coordinate preventive maintenance schedules for equipment, systems, and infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other related systems; Facilities Inspection and Compliance: Conduct regular inspections of the facilities/classrooms and playgrounds to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and compliance issues. Develop and maintain inspection checklists and vehicle records, track deficiencies, and ensure timely resolution. Install safety equipment as necessary

Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination and communication regarding maintenance needs, repairs, and facility-related projects. Provide guidance and support to staff members regarding facility maintenance and safety procedures

Work as a team with site staff to ensure that Head Start Zero-Five facilities are maintained in accordance with Arizona Child Care Licensing requirements and Federal Head Start Performance Standards

Assemble and repair furniture and transport furniture to and from classrooms or storage facilities

Collaborate with Human Services staff, partners, and professionals to ensure seamless coordination and communication regarding maintenance needs, repairs, facility-related projects, and required inspections. Provide guidance and support to staff members regarding facility maintenance and safety procedures

Operate various power tools including saws, drills, flatbed truck with lift

Install door stops, signage and non-skid materials, wall and floor cabinets, countertops, and sinks

Act as a responder to emergency service requests to secure utilities and/or facilities and evaluate the severity of emergencies in order to request appropriate resources

Monitor expenses, review invoices, and ensure cost-effective utilization of resources. Keep inventory of furniture, janitorial supplies, and program supplies, and notify the supervisor when items need to be ordered. Maintain storage rooms

Keep warehouse supplies neatly organized and dispose of surplus items

Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, invoices, maintenance logs, and equipment documentation. Prepare regular reports on maintenance activities, budget utilization, and performance metrics. Present findings and recommendations to the Facility Supervisor. Maintain vehicle fleet and associated records of preventative maintenance and emissions (compliant), keeping vehicles clean and filled with gas, and reporting any problems with vehicles to Equipment Services

Coordinate classroom activities, including relocation, maintenance, and equipment updates with partners and Head Start staff

Meet with contractors, fire inspectors, and school representatives to complete maintenance and repair-related tasks or to collaborate on projects being done in conjunction with a school district

Working Conditions

Work is routinely performed in an office environment, which may require long periods of sitting, reading, and typing. Requires travel to program sites throughout Maricopa County. The position requires travel to and from various county, client, and contractor locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles and/or private vehicles used on County business. 

Must be able to move and lift objects weighing up to 65 pounds
