Job DescriptionJob DescriptionWe are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for an Accounting Assistant in the construction/contractor industry, located in Chesapeake, Virginia, 23323, United States. As an Accounting Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining financial records, including purchases, sales, receipts, and payments, and managing accounting tasks.

Responsibilities:

• Handle multi-tasking duties, including reception tasks and accounting responsibilities
• Accurately enter and manage payables in the AP module
• Ensure timely and accurate receipt, invoicing, and import of Purchasing and Service Management A/P invoices
• Oversee the verification and generation of AP invoice for temporary laborer’s time sheet
• Record and process overhead, fleet, and other miscellaneous expenses for payment
• Set up and maintain vendor profiles
• Monitor and respond to emails received by AP group email
• Reconcile vendor statements on a monthly basis and maintain various reports and spreadsheets for management review
• Review AP aging and generate weekly payable check run
• Track overhead expenses and record vendor auto draft payments
• Distribute monthly corporate credit card statements and expense reports
• Properly code and enter credit card expense reports ensuring all receipts have been submitted and sales tax has been accounted for
• Address and respond to all vendor inquiries in a timely manner
• Maintain fleet information including driver assignments, registration renewals, WEX cards, and EZ pass
• Scan and link all invoices using TimberScan
• Maintain and replenish petty cash box and process cash reimbursements and checks as needed
• Record and enter cash receipts received via direct deposit ACH, credit card, and mail
• Review AR aging weekly and contact customers regarding outstanding invoices
• Manage end of month reconciliations for AP and AR and conduct end of month overhead expense audit.• Must possess a minimum of 2 years of experience in an Accounting Assistant role or similar
• Proficiency in performing accounting functions
• Demonstrable experience in handling Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
• Familiarity with auditing procedures is required
• Adept at performing bank reconciliations
• Must have a strong understanding of general accounting principles
• Proficient in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
• Excellent numerical skills and attention to detail
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
