Role Summary and Qualifications

The Lactation Specialist showcases advanced knowledge and expertise in breastfeeding support for families and newborns. Each consultation necessitates specialized skills, tailored to the age and specific needs of the family and infant. Responsibilities include coordinating lactation services, providing inpatient consultations, and offering follow-up support via telephone, while also serving as a resource for medical and nursing staff.

Qualifications Required:

  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in Colorado or a current multistate RN license.
  • Current BLS Certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Completion of a certified lactation program is essential.
  • IBCLC certification is preferred.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of clinical experience in perinatal nursing, specifically with breastfeeding mothers and infants.

Additional Requirements:

Demonstrates strong organizational skills and provides safe, appropriate patient care in accordance with nursing standards at Rose Medical Center. Possesses knowledge of lactation anatomy and physiology, nutrition during pregnancy and lactation, management of breastfeeding challenges, psychosocial aspects of lactation, and the ability to integrate these factors into nursing practice. Exhibits sound judgment and problem-solving abilities, and communicates effectively and professionally with all stakeholders.
