Role Summary and Qualifications
The Lactation Consultant is responsible for demonstrating advanced knowledge and skills in breastfeeding support for families and newborns. Each consultation requires specialized expertise, with care tailored to the physical, psychosocial, cultural, safety, and educational needs of the family and infant. The Lactation Consultant coordinates lactation services within the facility, provides inpatient consultations, and offers follow-up support via telephone, serving as a resource for medical and nursing staff.
Qualifications Required:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado or an active multistate Registered Nurse license.
- Current BLS Certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Completion of a certified lactation program.
- IBCLC certification is preferred.
- Graduation from an accredited nursing school.
- A minimum of 2 to 3 years of clinical experience in perinatal nursing, specifically with breastfeeding mothers and infants.
Additional Requirements:
Demonstrates strong organizational skills and provides safe, appropriate patient care in accordance with nursing standards at Rose Medical Center. Possesses knowledge in areas such as lactation anatomy and physiology, nutrition during pregnancy and lactation, management of breastfeeding challenges, psychosocial aspects of lactation, treatment modalities, and the ability to integrate these factors into nursing practice. Exhibits sound judgment and problem-solving abilities. Communicates effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with all internal and external stakeholders.
