Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Lactation Specialist exhibits advanced knowledge and expertise in breastfeeding, catering to the needs of families and newborns. Each consultation necessitates specialized skills. Care delivery is tailored to be age-appropriate and considers the physical, psychosocial, cultural, safety, and educational needs of both the family and the newborn. The Lactation Specialist oversees Lactation services within the facility, offers inpatient consultations, provides follow-up via telephone, and serves as a valuable resource for medical and nursing personnel.

Qualifications Required:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado or an active multistate Registered Nurse license.
  • Current BLS Certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Completion of a certified lactation program is required.
  • IBCLC certification is preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • A minimum of 2 to 3 years of clinical experience in Perinatal nursing, specifically with breastfeeding mothers and infants.

Additional Requirements:

Demonstrates strong organizational skills and provides safe, appropriate patient care in accordance with the Standards of Nursing Practice at Rose Medical Center. Possesses knowledge in areas such as lactation anatomy and physiology, nutrition during pregnancy and lactation, management of breastfeeding challenges, psychosocial aspects of lactation, treatment modalities, and the ability to integrate these factors into nursing practice. Exhibits sound judgment and problem-solving abilities. Communicates effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with all internal and external stakeholders.
