Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Antenna Design Engineer to join our team at the Applied Research Laboratory at the Penn State University. As a key member of our Antenna and Electromagnetics team, you will be responsible for managing complex antenna development projects, designing and constructing antennas, and contributing to the strategic objectives of our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Plan and direct research projects involving antenna development, analysis, and prototype testing.
  • Antenna Design and Development: Design and develop novel antenna designs, evaluate antenna designs using computational electromagnetics, and develop antenna prototypes.
  • Team Collaboration: Coordinate research and development activities between disciplines, including antenna development, electromagnetic analysis, and prototype development.
  • Leadership: Devise plans and lead work on complex antenna designs and prototype development, and guide programs of national or international significance.
  • Communication: Present papers, lead symposia, and chair committees, and participate on advisory/policy boards, journals, and societies.
  • Strategic Planning: Participate and contribute to the strategic plan of the unit, and supervise subordinate supervisors or team leaders.
  • Mentorship: Mentor assigned staff in the development of technical, project, and business development skills.
  • Documentation: Document data and findings in technical reports, documents, or oral/written presentations.
Requirements
  • Education: Minimally requires a Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science discipline, and 14 years of related experience. A Master's degree or PhD is preferred.
  • Skills: Effective at presenting in front of large groups of senior-level professionals, conveying information to drive action or decision. Past successful experience developing technical proposals, writing whitepapers, etc.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Matlab, Python, C++, and FORTRAN.

Work Environment
