About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Electrical or Computer Engineer to join our Intelligent Sensors Technologies (IST) Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University.

The IST department's mission is to analyze, design, develop, and prototype sensor systems and networks for various government agencies, focusing on supporting the warfighter in the near-term. Our core mission areas include:

  • System Design and Development: Implementing traditional systems and software engineering techniques for complex sensor systems.
  • Modeling and Simulation: Using modeling and simulation methodologies to optimize system performance.
  • Rapid Prototyping: Rapidly prototyping sensor systems for concept assessment, risk reduction, and accelerated capability fielding.
  • Agile Development: Utilizing agile development methods such as DevSecOps for continuous software pipelines.

As a key member of our team, you will:

  • Design Next-Generation Systems: Play a key role in designing next-generation systems for the Government.
  • Collaborate with Engineers: Collaborate with engineers at different levels daily to deliver complex sensor systems.
  • Contribute to Sensor Design: Take an active part in the sensor design and development process.
  • Work with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with engineers across various departments to deliver complex sensor systems.

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Science Discipline at a minimum. Preferred qualifications include:

  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in C / C++ / Python programming.
  • System Knowledge: Basic knowledge of electronic test equipment operation.
  • Software Tools: Experience with MATLAB and/or LABVIEW, Altium, Solidworks, and LINUX and Windows OS systems.
  • Embedded Systems: Experience with embedded systems such as FPGAs, microcontrollers, among others.
  • Security Clearance: Active government security clearance preferred.
