Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled RF Research and Development Engineer to join our team at the Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University. As a key member of our Antennas and Electromagnetics Department, you will play a critical role in solving complex RF Propagation projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement RF propagation models, including environmental effects such as space weather and meteorology.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of engineering products, systems, and subsystems using RF propagation models.
  • Develop novel techniques in RF propagation, including new mathematical derivations of electromagnetic phenomena and relevant environmental factors.
  • Conduct RF propagation experiments and tests in the laboratory and field to test, prove, or modify theoretical propositions.
  • Document data and findings in technical reports, documents, and oral/written presentations.
  • Create opportunities to improve RF propagation modeling and analysis capability.
  • Provide innovative problem-solving approaches to enhance RF propagation modeling and analysis capabilities.
  • Research and identify follow-on research projects and/or initiate new project concepts.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Science-related discipline.
  • Experience in RF Propagation mathematical methods, implementation of new and established methods, and application of methods to solve specific problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to document research findings in whitepapers and technical reports.
  • Proven experience implementing scientific or technical solutions independently with guidance from mentors.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with end-to-end design, implementation, and testing of technical and scientific solutions.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in multiple scientific programming languages, including Matlab, Python, C++, and FORTRAN.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current active security clearance.
  • Ability to learn new programming languages and tools, mathematical techniques, and numerical implementations.
What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $76,700.00 - $129,500.00, depending on qualifications and experience. The position can be filled at multiple levels, depending on education and work experience. We also offer a hybrid on-site/work-from-home arrangement in the State College, PA area.
