Position Overview
Virginia Highlands Community College is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment through quality education and community engagement. We are seeking a skilled interpreter to facilitate communication for our deaf and hard of hearing students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate interpretation of lectures, discussions, and various activities based on the needs of students.
- Effectively voice interpret signs from deaf/hard of hearing students into fluent English for the benefit of peers, faculty, and staff.
- Collaborate efficiently with fellow sign language interpreters to ensure seamless communication.
- Uphold the highest standards of professional ethics in interpreting.
- Ensure confidentiality in all interactions.
- Exhibit flexibility in work hours to accommodate student needs, including both daytime and evening shifts.
Additional Duties:
May be assigned other responsibilities as necessary. Potentially assist the agency or state government during emergency situations as declared by the Governor.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of a certified ASL interpreter credential.
- Willingness to adapt to a flexible work schedule based on student requirements.

- Completed employment application for the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Availability for approximately 10 hours per week, contingent on student needs.
