Primary Duties:

  • Interprets medical and other related patient-care information (target language skills requirements listed below)
  • Provides medical interpretation to facilitate culturally appropriate, clear understanding and direct communication between providers and Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients and families as stipulated by MGUH Policy 452.
  • Informs and/or educates providers and staff on culturally sensitive matters that may affect the delivery of patient care.
  • Provides written translation for simple documents as requested.
  • Supports and interfaces with members of the department to assist as requested/needed with any aspect of interpretation, communication or coordination services.
  • Promotes GUH, its language access and its services to the LEP populations through daily interaction, communication, presentations and community outreach.
  • Develops and promotes language access and cultural accommodation through creation and participation in orientation and in-service sessions.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 1-2 years' medical interpreting experience.
  • National certification in medical interpreting as available and applicable required.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish with familiarity with medical terminology required.

This position has a hiring range of $ $44.83
