Mueller Company, a premier manufacturer of flow control devices for the water and gas distribution sectors, is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer. The Decatur Operations, established in 1857, produces robust and reliable devices utilized in industrial and commercial settings. Their product line includes brass water and steel gas valves, Water/Gas Line tapping machines, Line Stopper Fittings, tools, and controllers.

The Engineer will spearhead the transformation towards Operational Excellence by cultivating a culture of continuous improvement through the application of lean methodologies and practices across all manufacturing value streams. The ideal candidate will lead and facilitate process enhancements through standardization, optimization of material flow, and overall waste reduction, thereby improving manufacturing lead times and customer service metrics. The primary goal is to enhance both personnel and processes to positively influence key performance indicators (KPIs) such as Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Cost, ensuring competitiveness in the marketplace and fostering business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence throughout the organization by ensuring the consistent application of Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Lead Kaizen Events and Six Sigma Black Belt level initiatives across operations to enhance Value Stream performance.
  • Encourage a Lean Implementation environment by training employees in Lean tools and techniques, including Value Stream Mapping, Kanban (Pull Systems), Level Loading, Heijunka, PFEP, Supermarket, Material Handling Route Design, Waste identification, 5S, Visual Management, JIT, SMED, and Poka Yoke.
  • Facilitate the sharing and development of best practices among plants.
  • Develop and enhance operational processes and procedures to align with the Company's strategic objectives.
  • Encourage high levels of employee engagement in teams and events to promote accountability and achieve results.
  • Be prepared to work on the manufacturing floor.
  • Willingness to work overtime and occasionally irregular shifts is required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Technical field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on high-speed machining.
  • Proficient knowledge and experience in Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma tools.
  • Strong computer and systems skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with all levels of employees, customers, and external professionals.
