Role Overview:

The Component Engineer will be responsible for the selection, qualification, and sourcing of components integral to the company's technological advancements. This role involves exploring alternative component technologies to enhance cost efficiency while ensuring superior quality and reliability. The engineer will serve as the primary technical liaison between component suppliers and development teams, facilitating the identification of new and alternative sources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead initiatives with suppliers to enhance supply chain performance and manufacturing processes, employing best practices in project management, Six Sigma, Lean methodologies, and negotiation techniques.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate processes and suppliers for components, taking into account long-term compatibility and total cost of ownership.
  • Complete essential project and part qualification documentation, including Supplier pFMEA, Process Validations (IQ/OQ/PQ), Inspection Reports, Gage R&R, and Process Capability Analysis.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to implement cost-saving measures, improve capacity, and mitigate risks.
  • Oversee supplier modifications, including changes in manufacturing processes, production optimization, facility upgrades, new equipment qualifications, and new line validations.
  • Manage changes to specifications and drawings through the engineering change order process as necessary.
  • Address supplier variances by conducting thorough root cause analyses and implementing corrective actions, including detailed CAPA/SCAR documentation.
  • Effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently.
  • Communicate project statuses clearly to key stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain a strategic vision for supplier development.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation levels for tracking actions and justifying decisions.
  • Generate and monitor key performance metrics for the team and suppliers, driving timely achievement of these goals.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience; advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years in engineering and manufacturing, with at least 3 years in Supplier Management and Development.
  • Skills: Proven leadership in resolving complex technical and process challenges.
  • Industry Knowledge: Previous experience in Medical Device manufacturing is highly desirable.
  • Technical Expertise: Familiarity with machined metal components, metal injection molding, stamping, and welding is essential.
  • Material Knowledge: Strong understanding of materials related to design and manufacturability is preferred.
  • Communication: Ability to read and interpret detailed mechanical drawings and convey technical information effectively.
  • Software Proficiency: Significant experience with Windows, Word, Excel, Access, and ERP systems, preferably SAP and Agile.
  • Personal Attributes: A strong sense of purpose combined with a high execution capability and excellent communication skills.
