Position: Senior Mechanical Engineer

Primary Role:

The IonTM endoluminal system by Intuitive Surgical is engineered for minimally invasive lung biopsies, primarily aimed at improving early detection of lung cancer.

As a member of the Product Engineering (PE) team, your focus will be on enhancing and sustaining the existing product.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work collaboratively with various teams, spearheading initiatives to refine the design, production, and service of the IonTM System. We seek a candidate who excels in a dynamic, small-team environment and can effectively manage multiple priorities.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly expanding division within Intuitive Surgical and play a crucial role in its future success.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will apply your creativity and engineering acumen to design medical devices that deliver value to patients and healthcare providers. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is vital for the success of our products. You will be responsible for conceptualizing, developing, and executing mechanical designs, demonstrating sound judgment in challenging scenarios.

  • Lead cross-functional teams to enhance the design, production, and service of the IonTM System.
  • Identify and resolve complex issues related to electro-mechanical components, manufacturing processes, and system performance.
  • Design, test, and implement solutions to enhance product performance and reliability, guiding the development and documentation process.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to elevate the technical and business knowledge of team members.
Qualifications

Skills and Experience Required:

  • A minimum of 12 years' experience in electromechanical product design and manufacturing or relevant advanced education.
  • Expertise in mechanism design, particularly in robotics and/or medical devices.
    • Proficiency in mechanical analysis, failure analysis, and designing components and assemblies using CAD software.
    • Experience in volume manufacturing processes such as metal casting, injection molding, and sheet metal stamping.
  • Self-motivated with a proven ability to thrive in a dynamic team environment, embracing shared responsibility and rewards.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
  • Familiarity with all stages of the product development lifecycle, from design to implementation and verification.

Education and Training Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.

Additional Preferred Skills:

  • Curiosity and eagerness to solve technical challenges.
  • Experience leading teams, managing stakeholders, and mentoring engineers.
  • Effective communication skills across various organizational levels.
  • Familiarity with regulated environments and design verification/validation processes.

Salary Ranges:
Region 1: $143,500 - $206,500
Region 2: $122,000 - $175,600

Work Details:
Shift: Day
Travel: 10% required
Work Setup: Onsite work with a defined schedule determined by leadership.
