Job Overview:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer plays a pivotal role in sourcing, selecting, and qualifying components integral to the company's technological advancements. This position involves exploring alternative component technologies and suppliers to enhance quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Acting as a technical liaison between suppliers and development engineers, the engineer will assess new and alternative sources for components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead initiatives with suppliers to enhance business and manufacturing process performance, ensuring alignment with company standards for supplier excellence.
  • Identify and select appropriate processes and suppliers for components, considering long-term compatibility and total cost of ownership.
  • Oversee project qualification deliverables, including Supplier pFMEA, Process Validations, Inspection Reports, and Process Capability Analysis.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to achieve cost reductions, enhance capacity, and mitigate risks.
  • Manage changes from suppliers, including manufacturing process adjustments and new equipment qualifications.
  • Initiate and manage changes to specifications and drawings through the engineering change order process.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into supplier variances, from identifying symptoms to implementing corrective actions.
  • Effectively prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects and tasks.
  • Communicate project status clearly to key stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain a vision for supplier development and improvement.
  • Generate and track key performance metrics for the team and suppliers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience; advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in engineering and manufacturing.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Supplier Management and Development.
  • Proven leadership skills in resolving complex technical and process challenges.
  • Experience in Medical Device manufacturing is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with the design and manufacture of machined metal components, metal injection molding, stamping, and welding.
  • Strong understanding of materials in relation to design and manufacturability.
  • Ability to interpret detailed mechanical drawings and convey technical information effectively.
  • Proficient in computer applications including Windows, Word, Excel, Access, and ERP systems, preferably SAP and Agile.
  • Exceptional communication skills and a strong sense of purpose.
