Role Overview:

The Component Engineer is responsible for the sourcing, selection, and qualification of components integral to the company's technological advancements. This role involves exploring alternative component technologies or suppliers to enhance cost-effectiveness while improving quality and reliability. The engineer serves as the technical liaison between component suppliers and development engineers, identifying new and alternative sources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead initiatives with suppliers to enhance supply chain performance and manufacturing processes, ensuring adherence to supplier excellence standards through best practices in project management, Six Sigma, Lean methodologies, and negotiation techniques.
  • Assess and select appropriate processes and suppliers for components, focusing on long-term compatibility and total cost of ownership.
  • Complete project and part qualification tasks, including Supplier pFMEA, Process Validations (IQ/OQ/PQ), Inspection Reports, Gage R&R, and Process Capability Analysis.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to implement cost-saving measures, increase capacity, and mitigate risks.
  • Oversee supplier modifications, including changes in manufacturing processes, production optimization, facility updates, new equipment qualifications, and new line validations.
  • Manage changes to specifications and drawings through the engineering change order process, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
  • Investigate supplier variances, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions, while maintaining thorough CAPA/SCAR documentation.
  • Effectively prioritize and advance multiple concurrent projects and tasks, ensuring timely communication of project status to stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain a vision for supplier development, driving continuous improvement.
  • Establish key performance metrics for the team and suppliers, striving for timely achievement of those objectives.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of a BS degree in Engineering or equivalent experience; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in engineering and manufacturing.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Supplier Management and Development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in resolving complex technical and process challenges.
  • Experience in Medical Device manufacturing is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with the manufacture and/or design of machined metal components, metal injection molding, stamping, and welding.
  • A strong understanding of materials in relation to design and manufacturability.
  • Experience with plastic injection molded components is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting detailed mechanical drawings and conveying technical information effectively.
  • Significant experience with Windows, Word, Excel, Access, and ERP Information Systems, preferably SAP and Agile software.
  • A strong sense of purpose combined with excellent execution capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
