Position Overview:

The State of Maine is seeking a skilled Microbiologist Supervisor with strong laboratory and leadership capabilities. This role is essential for overseeing the Bureau of Public Health and Aquaculture Program.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct supervision of water quality and biotoxin laboratories.
  • Management of laboratory personnel, ensuring effective operation and compliance with standards.
  • Conducting weekly bacteriology analyses to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Providing oversight for marine biotoxin laboratory operations.
  • Coordinating with other laboratory facilities to maintain consistency in testing and reporting.
  • Utilizing sound judgment for quality control and assurance in laboratory processes.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a Master's Degree in Microbiology or Chemistry, along with substantial experience in supervising laboratory studies. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.


Preferred Skills:
  • Proficiency in water quality testing methodologies.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment calibration and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with HPLC, PCR, and LCMS operations.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and communicate findings effectively.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing laboratory teams.
