Job Summary

Cincinnati State is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police to lead its Department of Public Safety. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing police, safety, security, and risk programs, as well as enforcing rules and regulations within the College.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, control, and staff all activities of the Department of Public Safety
  • Train and develop personnel to ensure effective and efficient operation of the department
  • Implement campus safety and security programs and services, including security, environmental health and safety, fire safety, emergency management, and parking management
  • Develop and propose safety and security policies and procedures for approval by the administration
  • Coordinate the implementation of community policing strategies to ensure all officers are trained accordingly
  • Lead the Public Safety Department and Campus Police force, a 24/7/365 operation at four campus locations
  • Develop and manage the department's annual budget, research, seek, and manage grant funds
  • Oversee the preparation of required crime incident reports, including monthly reports to the Vice President of Administration
  • Develop, implement, and drill threat mitigation emergency preparedness strategies
  • Respond to crimes in progress, emergencies, crises, etc.
  • Continuously monitor, review, and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods, procedures, and results
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or relevant discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Ten (10) years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience and three years of administrative and supervisory responsibility at the command level (Lieutenant or above)
  • Current Ohio Peace Officer state certification and ability to cover campus walking patrols when necessary
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record
  • Above average computer and software competencies in Microsoft Office Suite, law enforcement data systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading a public safety agency in a College or University setting and knowledge of Clery Act and Title IX compliance
  • Master's Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or relevant discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, AED, firearms; OSHA environmental and safety standards
