Position: Family Support Specialist

Role Summary

The Family Support Specialist plays a vital role in collaborating with families within their own environments to recognize strengths, establish developmental goals for children and families, and offer essential resources for holistic growth. This position is instrumental in guiding families towards achieving their long-term educational, vocational, and financial aspirations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with families in their residences on a regular basis to identify strengths and set developmental objectives;
  • Create tailored educational plans in partnership with parents for their children;
  • Support parents in reaching the goals outlined in their plans;
  • Demonstrate effective teaching strategies;
  • Provide requested resources and support to parents;
  • Collaborate with program Coordinators and Specialists to deliver comprehensive family services;
  • Participate in training sessions and team meetings;
  • Conduct developmental evaluations and assessments;
  • Manage a caseload of families;
  • Facilitate family socialization events;
  • Input family data into the database system;
  • Engage in mentoring and training opportunities;
  • Attend reflective supervision sessions;
  • Conduct outreach and recruitment activities;
  • Pursue ongoing professional development;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of family dynamics and community resources;
  • Proficient in computer applications;
  • Experience working with children and families;
  • Valid California Driver's License and automobile insurance;
  • Ability to convey the significance of play-based learning;
  • Collaborative team player in diverse environments;
  • Awareness of safe lifting practices;
  • Empathetic and compassionate approach;
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Requirements

  • Associate Teacher Permit or higher;
  • AA or BA degree in a relevant field preferred;
  • Completion of 6 Infant/Toddler units or willingness to obtain;
  • Family Services Credential to be obtained within 12 months.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform physical tasks such as climbing stairs, lifting, bending, and kneeling.

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • Physical examination;
  • TB test;
  • Background/fingerprint clearance;
  • Vaccinations and CPR certification;
  • Child Abuse Mandated Reporter Training.
