POSITION TITLE: Receptionist for Community Support

LOCATION/DEPT: Harbor Light

DEPARTMENT MISSION

To provide effective leadership through established policies and procedures, facilitating the Harbor Light Center in fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army.

PROGRAM/CLIENT ENVIRONMENT

The clients served by The Harbor Light Program come from diverse backgrounds and may exhibit various challenging behaviors. Employees are expected to respond appropriately within the treatment context of the facility. Professional conduct, including attire and communication, must align with the therapeutic environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Receptionist for Community Support plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and comfort of clients within the facility. Key responsibilities include:
  1. Answering phone calls in a courteous and professional manner, directing them to the appropriate department or individual.
  2. Conducting daily wellness checks on senior residents and those requiring medication, ensuring their well-being.
  3. Controlling access to the Harbor Light facility, greeting and seating approved guests in the lobby.
  4. Maintaining room keys and notifying the Resident Manager of any clients entering under the influence of substances.
  5. Following established emergency response procedures.
  6. Delivering mail and messages to clients, updating the directory as necessary.
  7. Redirecting inquiries about admission criteria to the Intake department.
  8. Performing additional duties as assigned.
REPORTING STRUCTURE

This position reports directly to the Resident Manager. In fulfilling these duties, the individual represents The Salvation Army and its mission.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

Performance will be assessed based on the effectiveness in achieving the outlined responsibilities, as well as the accuracy and timeliness of task completion.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Preferred experience in a residential treatment program setting.
  • Experience with phone switchboard operations is advantageous.
  • A minimum of one year of sobriety is required.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation.
  • Positive attitude with adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army.
POSITION LIMITATIONS
  • Only authorized resources may be committed.
  • Critical issues must be communicated to the Resident Manager.
  • All policies and procedures must be adhered to in executing job responsibilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This role involves light physical activity, including the ability to ascend two flights of stairs and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment and computers is necessary.
  • The work environment is primarily office-based with a low noise level.
  • Must be able to engage with clients who may have social skill challenges, mental health issues, or substance abuse histories.
