Job Title: Senior Manager Billing Operations

DLA Piper is a global law firm with a strong commitment to excellence and innovation. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager Billing Operations to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Senior Manager Billing Operations will be responsible for overseeing and leading the Client Account Supervisors and ensuring the overall daily operations of the Client Accounts team. This position will analyze current business processes and make recommendations for improvement based on solid performance metrics. The Senior Manager will also be responsible for testing new systems and support upgrades and enhancements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor the daily operations of the team and ensure work assignments are completed in a timely manner and meeting the expectations of the attorneys and clients.
  • Responsible for ensuring the team meets or exceeds performance standards and metrics.
  • Analyze business processes and billing book assignments to ensure the most effective processes and balanced workloads are in place.
  • Develop process/workflow/workload improvements based on analysis.
  • Provide appropriate training to ensure that all billing processes and policies are applied consistently across the department.
  • Review performance on a continual basis and coach and train staff throughout the year.
  • Field billing inquiries and questions on a daily basis.
  • Interact with clients, attorneys, and staff on a daily basis and help resolve billing issues.
  • Participate and support all project management initiatives.
  • Plan and facilitate team meetings and prepare agendas and capture/tracks important discussion items.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for the team and respond to inquiries posed by attorneys, practice groups, or other team members.
  • Continually research and remain current on best practices and identify, document, and communicate system and procedural issues across departments.
  • Provide leadership to and manage a team of business professionals and responsible for providing performance feedback on a regular basis.
Requirements:
  • Two plus years' experience managing and/or overseeing a billing/invoicing team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required to interact with staff and timekeepers.
  • Must be a strategic, creative, and innovative thinker.
  • Must be team-oriented and have the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have strong attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex problems.
  • Must have proven analytical skills and the ability to work independently and take direction well.
  • Must have the ability to lead and manage a diverse team and provide training and guidance to ensure consistent application of billing procedures across the team.
  • Must exercise sound judgment and decision-making skills.
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a similar field.
Experience:
  • Eight years of experience in working in a complex billing function in a law firm or professional services organization.
  • Experience with Elite and/or Aderant plus any e-Billing applications is required.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence software and reporting is strongly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel is required.
  • Must have excellent analytical skills and be comfortable charting large data sets and summarizing trends.
