TOP - Wind Technician Level 1 Role

Job Responsibilities:


The TOP Wind Service Technicians will undergo exclusive wind safety and technical training accredited by the Global Wind Organization (GWO).

You will primarily operate at a wind site location close to home, collaborating with a service team to ensure safe and efficient maintenance of wind turbine systems. You will report directly to the Program Manager and Site Manager, and indirectly to the Lead Technician during assignments.

Your duties will include conducting all preventive, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance on wind turbine generator equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

You will also be responsible for maintaining and repairing machinery or components utilized primarily in power generation applications, turbines, and generators as directed. Note that you are not certified to perform work inside any Cabinet/Controller without direct supervision from a certified Electrical Technician.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned to meet customer needs and to help proactively drive our Sky Climber vision while aligning with our organization's mission and values.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
  • High School Diploma / GED and an Associate Degree in a Technical Mechanical or Wind Energy discipline from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience in mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic industries

Training Requirements:

  • Basic Safety Training (e.g., First Aid, CPR, Fall Protection)
  • Tower Safety Training (e.g., High-angle rescue or wind tower rescue)
  • Technical Training (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic)
  • LOTO Training
  • Other training as required
  • Successful completion of Background Check and Drug Screening

Desired Characteristics:

  • A strong commitment to safety and service excellence
  • Preferred background in mechanical and electrical systems
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding English
  • Ability to interpret basic diagrams and wiring schematics
  • Competence in using MS Office Application Suite

  • Strong organizational abilities
  • Eagerness to learn

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to climb a 300-foot wind tower multiple times daily
  • Capacity to walk across the hub and, in emergencies, repel off
  • Comfort working at heights exceeding 300 feet
  • Must meet specific weight requirements of tower ladders under OSHA and/or industry standards of 250 to 300 lbs. max, including personal protective equipment (approx. 30-35 lbs)
  • Comfort working in confined spaces
  • Ability to see and move throughout the site to resolve work issues; repetitive motion activities may be involved
  • Occasional kneeling and squatting
  • Frequent climbing, walking, standing, and bending
  • Ability to handle repetitive weights up to 50 lbs
  • Successful completion of climb tests and tower rescue training

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all assigned Environmental, Health, and Safety procedures
  • Conduct basic mechanical installations, maintenance, operations, and upgrades
  • Ensure work complies with customer requirements
  • Execute tasks based on established procedures
  • Document all work performed
  • Report any policy or procedure violations
  • Submit progress reports
  • Repair or replace parts as necessary
  • Possess knowledge of specific tools and use them safely
  • Occasionally work independently on components as part of maintenance projects
  • Dismantle and assemble basic machinery, components, equipment, or tooling
  • Travel as required (up to 25%)
  • Willingness to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed
  • Ability to work at heights and in all weather conditions
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and clear driving record
