TOP - Wind Technician Level 1 Role

The Tech One Program (TOP) is a structured career advancement initiative for entry-level wind technicians, developed in collaboration with industry leaders, Sky Climber Renewables and Vestas Americas.

Job Responsibilities:


The TOP Wind Service Technicians will undergo specialized wind safety and technical training accredited by the Global Wind Organization (GWO).

You will primarily operate at a wind site close to your residence, collaborating with a service team to ensure safe and efficient maintenance of wind turbine systems. You will report directly to the Program Manager and Site Manager, and indirectly to the Lead Technician during assignments.

Your responsibilities will include performing all preventive, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance on wind turbine generator equipment safely and efficiently.

You will also be tasked with maintaining and repairing machinery or components primarily used in power generation, turbines, and generators as directed. Note that you will not be certified to work inside any Cabinet/Controller without direct supervision from a certified Electrical Technician.

Additional duties may be assigned to meet customer needs and to help drive our Sky Climber vision while aligning with our organization's mission and values.

Qualifications Required:

  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
  • High School Diploma / GED and an Associate Degree in a Technical Mechanical or Wind Energy discipline from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience in mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic fields

Training Requirements:

  • Basic Safety Training (e.g., First Aid, CPR, Fall Protection)
  • Tower Safety Training (e.g., High-angle rescue or wind tower rescue)
  • Technical Training (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic)
  • LOTO Training
  • Other training as necessary
  • Successful completion of Background Check and Drug Screening

Desired Characteristics:

  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding English
  • Ability to interpret basic diagrams and wiring schematics

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to climb a 300-foot wind tower multiple times daily
  • Capability to walk across the hub and, in emergencies, repel off
  • Comfort working at heights exceeding 300 feet
  • Compliance with specific weight requirements of tower ladders under OSHA and/or industry standards of 250 to 300 lbs. max, including personal protective equipment (approx. 30-35 lbs)
  • Comfort working in confined spaces
  • Ability to see and navigate the site to resolve work issues and facilitate processes; repetitive motion activities may be involved
  • Occasional kneeling and squatting
  • Frequent climbing, walking, standing, and bending
  • Ability to handle repetitive weights up to 50 lbs
  • Successful completion of climb tests and tower rescue training

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all assigned Environmental, Health, and Safety procedures
  • Conduct basic mechanical installations, maintenance, operations, and upgrades
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with customer specifications
  • Execute tasks based on established work procedures
  • Document all work performed
  • Report any policy or procedure violations
  • Submit progress reports
  • Repair or replace parts as necessary
  • Possess knowledge of specific tools and use them safely
  • Occasionally work independently on components as part of maintenance projects
  • Dismantle and assemble basic machinery, components, equipment, or tooling
  • Travel as required (up to 25%)
  • Willingness to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as required by field assignments
  • Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and clear driving record (e.g., no suspensions or restrictions)
