Job Title: After School Program Assistant

The Salvation Army is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic After School Program Assistant to join our team. As an After School Program Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of our after-school programs, providing a safe and engaging environment for children to learn and grow.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the supervision of children in the after-school program
  • Provide homework assistance and support to children
  • Assist in implementing established daily schedules and routines
  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment for children
  • Assist in keeping facilities, materials, and equipment clean and in good working order
  • Adhere to all Salvation Army policies and procedures, including Protecting the Mission
  • Assist in completing reports as needed
  • Promote the Ministry and Mission of The Salvation Army
  • Perform other duties as requested
Requirements:
  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age
  • 1-2 years of experience working with children in a high-energy childcare capacity
  • Capable of meeting the physical and mental demands of the position
  • Able to pass a background check and complete The Salvation Army child safety training (Protecting the Mission)

  • Good leadership skills
  • Ability to enforce defined boundaries and behavior expectations
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written
  • Ability to solve problems and mediate conflict between children
  • Flexibility and willingness to be a part of a team
  • Ability to set priorities and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability and willingness to keep information confidential
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, rules, instructions, and procedures
Benefits:

The Salvation Army offers a generous benefits package, including paid holidays, vacation time, sick time, and medical, vision, and dental insurance. Health insurance is available at a low bi-weekly premium for employee-only coverage. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage is available at an additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available. Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option. Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events. Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months' service time. Paid Vacation: Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions. Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions. Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months' service time. Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year.
