ROLE OVERVIEW
Adopt a patient-focused approach while administering treatments, evaluating patients, and delivering comprehensive care. This role promotes learning and development as an emergency veterinary technician, with a focus on advancing towards a Veterinary Technician Specialist certification and engaging in care coordination. Veterinary technicians operate autonomously, utilizing critical thinking and leadership skills to implement patient treatment plans in collaboration with the veterinary team.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
We are looking for a certified veterinary technician who is passionate and motivated. You should prioritize professional growth, be a collaborative team member, and demonstrate integrity and respect towards colleagues. A genuine enthusiasm for working with animals and people is essential. Key traits include adaptability, eagerness to learn, and innovative problem-solving. Strong communication skills and a positive demeanor are vital, along with the ability to complete assigned tasks and seek assistance when necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide compassionate and attentive care to each patient and client.
- Perform basic to intermediate nursing care tasks, including patient monitoring and treatments.
- Utilize knowledge of common illnesses, physical assessments, and monitoring parameters to accurately triage incoming patients.
- Administer various medications while understanding their potential side effects.
- Manage intravenous fluid therapy and blood transfusions.
- Support both outpatient and inpatient care.
- Participate in patient rounds and CPR protocols.
- Conduct diagnostic tests and imaging procedures.
- Execute nursing care tasks such as catheter placements and oxygen administration.
Veterinary technicians also:
- Administer anesthesia and monitor patients during advanced procedures.
- Perform complex vascular access techniques and diagnostics.
- Assist in the development of treatment and care plans.
- Contribute to managing the patient care workload.
- Support and mentor other clinical staff.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure optimal patient care.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certified veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT).
- Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification is advantageous.
- Basic computer skills for practice management and medical record-keeping.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience as a veterinary technician, preferably in emergency or specialty medicine.
- Excellent communication skills and manual dexterity.
- Physical capability to perform various tasks and lifting.
