ROLE OVERVIEW

This position emphasizes a patient-focused approach in delivering care, evaluating patients, and administering treatments. We encourage continuous learning and professional development as an emergency veterinary technician, with pathways to achieve Veterinary Technician Specialist certification and involvement in care coordination. Veterinary technicians are expected to operate autonomously, employing critical thinking and leadership skills to implement treatment plans in collaboration with the veterinary team.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for a certified veterinary technician who is passionate and motivated. A commitment to learning, teamwork, and mutual respect among colleagues is essential. A genuine love for working with animals and people is crucial. Key attributes include adaptability, eagerness to learn, and innovative problem-solving skills. Strong communication abilities and a positive demeanor are vital, along with the capacity to complete assigned tasks and seek assistance when necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide compassionate and attentive care to each patient and client.
  • Perform nursing care tasks, monitor patients, and administer treatments.
  • Utilize knowledge of common ailments and physical assessments to accurately triage incoming patients.
  • Administer medications and understand their potential side effects.
  • Manage intravenous fluid therapy and blood transfusions.
  • Support both outpatient and inpatient care.
  • Engage in patient rounds and participate in CPR efforts.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests and imaging procedures.
  • Execute nursing tasks such as catheter placements and oxygen delivery.

Additionally, veterinary technicians will:

  • Administer anesthesia and monitor patients during advanced procedures.
  • Perform complex vascular access techniques and diagnostics.
  • Assist in formulating treatment and care plans.
  • Help manage the patient care workload.
  • Provide support and guidance to other clinical staff.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT).
  • Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification is advantageous.
  • Basic computer skills for managing practice operations and medical records.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a veterinary technician, preferably in emergency or specialty settings.
  • Excellent communication skills and manual dexterity.
  • Physical capability to perform various tasks and lift as needed.
