Job Overview

Position Title: Deputy Sheriff of Recreation Patrol – Limited Term Employee

Department: Green Lake County Sheriff's Office

Location: Government Center

Supervisor: Chief Deputy

Role Summary:

Under the general guidance of the Patrol Sergeants, this role is responsible for maintaining law and order while ensuring the safety of individuals and property across the waterways and trails of Green Lake County. The position requires a flexible schedule aligned with the operational needs of the Sheriff's Office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts patrols on lakes, rivers, and trails throughout the County, enforcing applicable laws and regulations.
  • Prepares and submits various documentation and reports.
  • Engages with the public to address concerns, conduct investigations, and provide follow-up assistance.
  • Maintains all necessary equipment for effective patrol operations.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with officials, agencies, colleagues, and the public.
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication in English.
  • Capable of understanding and following both written and verbal instructions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Sheriff's Office operations and requirements.
  • Ability to respond swiftly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all job-related matters.
  • Familiarity with County and Sheriff's Office policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of local waterways and trails.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations.
  • Proficient in swimming and using life-saving equipment.
  • Basic computer skills and mathematical abilities.
  • Meets physical fitness standards set by the department.
  • Skilled in operating various law enforcement equipment and vehicles.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 60 post-secondary credits. Must be certified or certifiable by the Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) upon hire.

Experience: Prior experience in law enforcement is preferred. Must maintain required certifications throughout employment.

Working Conditions:

Physical Demands: The role involves significant time spent on water or trails, requiring various physical activities. The department reserves the right to assess the physical fitness of employees.

Environmental Conditions: Majority of work is conducted outdoors in varying weather conditions. Some time may be spent in a climate-controlled environment.
