Job Overview

Position Summary:

Under the general oversight of the Patrol Sergeants, this role is responsible for maintaining law and order, ensuring safety, and protecting property on the waterways and trails of Green Lake County. The schedule will be determined based on the operational needs of the Sheriff's Office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts patrols on lakes, rivers, and trails throughout the County, enforcing relevant laws and regulations.
  • Prepares and submits various reports as required.
  • Assists the public by addressing concerns, conducting investigations, and providing follow-up support.
  • Maintains all necessary equipment for effective patrol operations.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with officials, agencies, co-workers, and the public.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Capability to understand and follow written and oral instructions in English.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Sheriff's Office operations and requirements.
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality in all job-related functions.
  • Familiarity with County and Sheriff's Office policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of local waterways and trails.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations.
  • Ability to swim and utilize life-saving equipment.
  • Proficient in using a personal computer and performing basic mathematical calculations.
  • Meets physical condition standards set by the department.
  • Skilled in operating various law enforcement equipment and vehicles.

Qualifications:

Education: High school graduate or equivalent with at least 60 post-high school credits. Must be Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) certified or certifiable upon hire.

Experience: Prior experience in law enforcement is preferred. Must maintain CPR/AED and TIME certifications for the duration of employment.

Working Conditions:

Physical Demands: The role involves significant time spent on water or trails, requiring various physical activities such as sitting, standing, walking, and climbing. The department reserves the right to assess the medical and physical fitness of employees.

Environmental Conditions: Most of the time is spent outdoors in varying weather conditions, with some time spent in a climate-controlled environment.
