Role of Custodians:
Our custodial team plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, inviting, and hygienic environment that promotes the effective use of campus facilities. This is achieved through routine and specialized cleaning of campus buildings, furniture relocation, and event setup assistance. The primary focus is on employing appropriate techniques and utilizing cleaning agents and materials to uphold cleanliness, aesthetic appeal, and sanitation standards. The full-time Custodian typically works 40 hours per week and collaborates closely with supervisors, staff, and college administration. This position is scheduled Monday - Friday from 4:00 PM to 1:00 AM.

Key Responsibilities:
The following duties outline the primary responsibilities of this position, though they are not exhaustive:

  • Perform dusting, sweeping, wet mopping, spray buffing, stripping, and refinishing of floors.
  • Conduct vacuuming, spot cleaning, and shampooing of carpets.
  • Maintain restroom cleanliness by scrubbing fixtures and ensuring supplies are stocked.
  • Dust, clean, and wash walls, doors, windows, woodwork, and other elevated surfaces.
  • Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste appropriately.
  • Prepare rooms for conferences, lectures, and special events.
  • Assist in furniture movement as needed.
  • Report any equipment or facility issues to the immediate supervisor.
  • Carry out additional tasks as required and directed.
  • Support the setup of tables and chairs for events.
  • Secure college facilities at the end of shifts.
  • Engage in deep cleaning activities as necessary.
  • May assist with painting during breaks.
Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; a valid driver's license is required.

Skills:
  • Ability to adhere to departmental operating and safety protocols.
  • Capability to perform physical tasks requiring moderate strength.
  • Proficiency in operating mechanical cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to operate a campus vehicle.
  • Competence in following simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and clients.
  • Willingness to work overtime when necessary.
