Job Overview

AECOM is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Cultural Resource Specialist II.

The Cultural Resource Specialist will contribute to various cultural resource initiatives across the Southeast, East Coast, and broader United States, as opportunities arise.

This role requires a solid understanding of field excavation methods, participation in archaeological assessments, evaluations, and data recovery operations, as well as the analysis of both prehistoric and historic artifacts. The Specialist will also assist in the creation of compliance documentation.


Key Responsibilities:


Conducts archaeological fieldwork, laboratory assessments, and thorough documentation while being proficient in standard archaeological practices, including the excavation of shovel test pits and test units for all stages of archaeological inquiries.


Acts as a Crew Chief, possessing experience in leading field teams under the supervision of the Field Director and Principal Investigator, which includes organizing field activities and training team members in the use of tools, technology, and field methodologies.

Engages in research for archaeological projects, utilizing GIS, site records, and various data sources.

Maintains accurate records and oversees the relevant State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) documentation related to cultural resources.

Gathers information and makes informed decisions through observation, interviews, and document analysis.

Contributes to the drafting of archaeological reports and/or prepares archaeological site documentation.

Collaborates with technical field, laboratory, and office personnel, as well as management and administrative staff, to ensure project adherence to AECOM's quality standards.

Performs physical tasks, including excavation with shovels and transporting wheelbarrows filled with soil.

Additional Information:
Must possess the ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs.

Additionally, a tolerance for working outdoors, including extended periods of walking or standing on diverse terrain in varying weather conditions, is required.
