Student Financial Services Advisor

New York Law School (NYLS) is seeking a dedicated Student Financial Services Advisor to provide essential system support and facilitate electronic processes that transfer various data files between the Department of Education and the NYLS Banner system. This role involves managing and certifying all components of the loan process, advising both incoming and current students on scholarships and the financial aid process, and making necessary adjustments to financial aid packages. Additionally, the Advisor will serve as a backup for various team members within the office and will be expected to participate in on-campus events organized by the Admissions and Student Financial Services Office as required.

The Student Financial Services Advisor must demonstrate a collaborative spirit in a team setting and maintain an inclusive, accessible, and professional environment within the office. A strong understanding of cultural awareness and agility is essential, as is a commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

This position will report directly to the Executive Director of Financial Aid.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Address and manage inquiries received through the financial aid inbox and phone line.
  • Oversee the internal financial aid calendar.
  • Assist in preparing financial aid award letters for newly admitted students.
  • Support the manual adjustment process for scholarships.
  • Facilitate budget loan increases, summer loan applications, consortium agreements, and certification of private and bar study loans through electronic transfer processes and academic status changes for continuing students.
  • Provide guidance to incoming and continuing students regarding the financial aid process.
  • Assist the Executive Director of Financial Aid with both internal and external financial aid reporting.
  • Coordinate and manage the donor scholarship process.
  • Participate in events organized by the Office of Admissions and Student Financial Services.
  • Perform additional projects and duties as assigned, which may include outreach to admitted students, attending recruitment events, providing campus tours, system testing, updates, and training.
  • Fulfill any other responsibilities necessary to support the school's goals, priorities, and outcomes, while upholding our mission and organizational values.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree is required, along with a minimum of three years of relevant experience in higher education, demonstrating sophisticated knowledge and experience with PC database systems and database management.
  • Experience with Banner is essential, and proficiency in Win SCP, Argos, and the Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Ability to collect, interpret, and analyze data effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the capacity to engage with diverse individuals and groups at all organizational levels, both within and outside the law school.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment and robust problem-solving abilities.
  • Significant experience in managing large volumes of mailings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential; a friendly, patient, diplomatic, and helpful demeanor is required.
  • Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and respect.
  • Exceptional time management skills are necessary.
  • Standard working hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Monday to Thursday) and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Friday), with some evening and weekend availability required.

Compensation and Benefits:

This position offers a competitive salary range of $60,000 to $70,000 annually, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
