Position Overview:

The Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO) plays a pivotal role in advancing the strategic objectives of Care New England by managing the integration of clinical information systems and technologies within the organization. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, this position is essential for the successful realization of Care New England's strategic initiatives.

  • The CCIO acts as a liaison between clinical and IT departments, ensuring that clinical workflows are enhanced through technological solutions.
  • This role involves close collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to assess their requirements and convert them into effective technological applications.
  • Works alongside IT teams to develop and implement clinical information systems, including electronic health records (EHRs) and computerized physician order entry (CPOE) systems.
  • Responsible for monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of clinical information systems, identifying opportunities for enhancement, and executing necessary modifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Formulating and executing the clinical informatics strategy for the organization.
  2. Partnering with IT teams to create and deploy clinical information systems, such as EHRs and CPOE systems.
  3. Ensuring the interoperability of various clinical systems and facilitating data exchange with external partners.
  4. Leading the training and education initiatives for healthcare professionals on the utilization of clinical information systems.
  5. Evaluating the performance of clinical information systems, pinpointing areas for improvement, and implementing required changes.
  6. Ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and standards, including HIPAA and Meaningful Use.
  7. Engaging in strategic planning and decision-making processes concerning clinical informatics.
  8. Collaborating with other executives and stakeholders to align clinical informatics projects with the organization’s overarching goals.
  9. Keeping abreast of the latest advancements in clinical informatics and proposing innovative solutions to improve patient care and operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

  1. MD or DO required.
  2. At least 10 years of experience as a practicing clinician, with a minimum of 5 years in direct clinical systems. Practical experience with electronic health information systems in a hospital environment is essential.
  3. Current medical license in the State of Rhode Island.
  4. Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management abilities.
  5. Strong problem-solving skills with a comprehensive understanding of the current healthcare landscape.
  6. Proven executive-level experience demonstrating initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making capabilities.
