Position Overview:

The Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO) plays a pivotal role in advancing the strategic objectives of Care New England by overseeing the incorporation of clinical information systems and technology into the organization’s framework. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, this position is essential for achieving the strategic ambitions of Care New England.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a liaison between clinical and information technology teams, ensuring that clinical workflows are enhanced through effective technological solutions.
  • Engage with healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses, to assess their requirements and translate these into actionable technology strategies.
  • Collaborate with IT departments to develop and implement clinical information systems, including electronic health records (EHRs) and computerized physician order entry (CPOE) systems.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of clinical information systems, identifying opportunities for enhancement and executing necessary modifications.

Core Duties:

  1. Formulate and execute the clinical informatics strategy for the organization.
  2. Work with IT teams to ensure the design and implementation of clinical information systems align with organizational needs.
  3. Guarantee the interoperability of various clinical systems and facilitate data exchange with external partners.
  4. Lead training initiatives for healthcare professionals on the effective use of clinical information systems.
  5. Monitor and assess the performance of clinical information systems, pinpointing areas for improvement and enacting required changes.
  6. Ensure adherence to relevant regulations and standards, including HIPAA and Meaningful Use.
  7. Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making processes related to clinical informatics.
  8. Collaborate with executives and stakeholders to align clinical informatics projects with the organization’s overarching goals.
  9. Stay informed about the latest developments in clinical informatics and propose innovative solutions to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

  1. MD or DO required.
  2. A minimum of 10 years as a practicing clinician, with at least 5 years of experience in direct clinical systems and practical experience with electronic health information systems in a healthcare setting.
  3. Possession of a current medical license in the State of Rhode Island.
  4. Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  5. Strong problem-solving abilities with a comprehensive understanding of the current healthcare landscape.
  6. Proven executive-level experience demonstrating initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making capabilities.
  7. A commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Care New England.
