Position Overview:

The Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO) plays a pivotal role in advancing the strategic objectives of Care New England by managing the integration of clinical information systems and technology into the operational framework of the organization. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, this position is essential for achieving the strategic ambitions of Care New England.

  • The CCIO acts as a liaison between clinical and information technology sectors, ensuring that clinical workflows are enhanced through technological advancements.
  • This role involves close collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to assess their requirements and translate them into effective technological solutions.
  • Works alongside IT teams to design and implement clinical information systems, including electronic health records (EHRs) and computerized physician order entry (CPOE) systems.
  • Responsible for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of clinical information systems, identifying opportunities for enhancement, and executing necessary modifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Formulating and executing the clinical informatics strategy for the organization.
  2. Collaborating with IT teams to develop and implement clinical information systems, such as EHRs and CPOE systems.
  3. Ensuring interoperability among various clinical systems and facilitating data exchange with external partners.
  4. Leading training and educational initiatives for healthcare professionals on the utilization of clinical information systems.
  5. Assessing and enhancing the performance of clinical information systems, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing necessary adjustments.
  6. Ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and standards, including HIPAA and Meaningful Use.
  7. Engaging in strategic planning and decision-making processes concerning clinical informatics.
  8. Collaborating with other executives and stakeholders to align clinical informatics initiatives with the broader organizational goals.
  9. Staying informed about the latest developments in clinical informatics and proposing innovative solutions to improve patient care and operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

  1. MD or DO required.
  2. A minimum of 10 years as a practicing clinician with at least 5 years of experience in direct clinical systems. Practical experience with electronic health information systems in a healthcare setting is essential.
  3. Current medical license in the State of Rhode Island.
  4. Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management abilities.
  5. Strong problem-solving skills with comprehensive knowledge of the current healthcare landscape.
  6. Proven executive-level track record of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making.
