Job Overview

Position:

We are seeking experienced mid-level and senior Controls Engineers with a strong background in industrial automation. This role is a contract position offering a competitive hourly rate based on experience.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Controls Engineer, your main duties will encompass the electrical design, programming, testing, and deployment of HMI/PLC control systems, robotics, and vision systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field (BSEE preferred)
  • Minimum of 6 years in the automation sector (multiple levels available)
  • At least 5 years of PLC Development experience (familiarity with Allen-Bradley, Omron)
  • Experience in configuring and designing HMI systems (Allen Bradley, PC)
  • Proficient in configuring and programming Motion Controllers/Actuators
  • Experience in programming robots and autonomous mobile robots (Fanuc, ABB, UR, MIR)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for control system issues
  • Preferred: Experience with Vision/Laser Systems programming (Cognex, Keyence, LMI)
  • Preferred: Familiarity with National Instruments software/hardware integration

Electrical Responsibilities:

  • Create electrical designs, schematics, and drawings using AutoCAD
  • Interpret mechanical design documents for electrical specifications (e.g., SolidWorks)
  • Research and select supplier products for assembly components
  • Power up electrical systems and configure hardware according to application needs
  • Ensure quality of work performed by assemblers/technicians and assist during assembly
  • Collaborate with Sales Engineers to provide input for quote preparation as needed

Programming Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop software applications based on project specifications or innovative concepts
  • Understand client requirements for HMI/communication interfaces and networking, creating specifications accordingly
  • Review, modify, and redesign existing code (both in-house and field-based)
  • Troubleshoot issues with currently installed systems
  • Draft user manuals to explain the functionality of developed programs
  • Conduct risk assessments for safety systems and robotics
  • Participate in requirement reviews and collaborate with Mechanical Engineering for proper feature implementation

General Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel and work at customer sites (10-15% travel expected)
  • Availability to work overtime to meet project deadlines as necessary
