Job Overview

Position:

We are seeking experienced mid-level and senior Automation Controls Specialists with a strong background in industrial automation. This role is a contract position offering a competitive pay rate based on experience.

Role Responsibilities:

As an Automation Controls Specialist, your main duties will involve the electrical design and programming, testing, and implementation of HMI/PLC control systems, robotics, and vision systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field (BSEE preferred)
  • 6+ years of experience in the automation sector (multiple levels available)
  • 5+ years of experience in PLC Development (Allen-Bradley, Omron)
  • Experience in configuring and designing HMI systems (Allen Bradley, PC)
  • Proficiency in configuring and programming Motion Controllers/Actuators
  • Experience in programming robots and autonomous mobile robots (Fanuc, ABB, UR, MIR)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for control system issues
  • Desired experience in Programming Vision/Laser Systems (Cognex, Keyence, LMI)
  • Desired experience in Programming/integrating National Instruments SW/HW

Key Responsibilities:

Electrical Engineering:

  • Create electrical designs, schematics, and drawings using AutoCAD
  • Interpret mechanical design drawings to determine electrical requirements (e.g., SolidWorks)
  • Research supplier products for assembly components
  • Power up electrical systems and configure hardware according to application specifications
  • Oversee the quality of work from assemblers/technicians and assist during assembly
  • Collaborate with Sales Engineers to provide input for quote preparation as needed

Software Development:

  • Design and develop software applications based on specifications or innovative concepts
  • Understand client requirements for HMI/communication interfaces and networking, creating specifications accordingly
  • Review, modify, and redesign legacy code (both in-house and in the field)
  • Troubleshoot issues with existing company-installed systems
  • Write user manuals to explain the functionality of developed programs
  • Conduct risk assessments for safety systems and robotics
  • Participate in requirement reviews and collaborate with Mechanical Engineering to ensure proper feature implementation

General Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel and work at customer sites (10-15% travel expected)
  • Availability to work overtime to meet project commitments as necessary
