Building Maintenance Craftsman

The Applied Research Laboratory at the Penn State University is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to join their team. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the smooth operation of our buildings and equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Carpentry and Building Maintenance: Perform ordinary carpentry work, including installing, maintaining, and repairing walls, partitions, drywall, paneling, woodwork, ceilings, doors, window glass, shelving, and other building components.
- Flooring and Finishing: Layout and install floor coverings, such as carpet, carpet padding, asphalt, and floor tile.
- Masonry and Concrete Work: Mix and pour concrete for patchwork and/or masonry repairs to curbs, walks, catch basins, walls, and other structures.
- Painting and Coatings: Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, scraping, sanding, taping joints, applying fillers, spackling wall surfaces, and applying primer coats.
- Electrical and Mechanical Repairs: Perform routine repairs to electrical and mechanical equipment, including replacing switches, receptacles, ballasts, motors, and other components.
- Plumbing Repairs: Replace faucets, elbows, washers, valves, fixtures, and other plumbing components, and install plumbing fixtures and exposed water and drain lines.
- Roofing and Gutter Maintenance: Patch leaks and make repairs to roofing, replace broken slate, clean roof surfaces, gutters, and drain of rubbish and leaves.
- Cleaning and Housekeeping: Sweep, scrub, mop, wax floors, and clean assigned areas of the building, including walls and ceilings, windows, and other surfaces.
- Tool Maintenance and Inventory: Perform regular and preventative maintenance on tools and other motorized equipment, and maintain inventory of building and maintenance supplies.
- Material Handling and Movement: Move, remove, and/or relocate furniture, equipment, supplies, and materials, and unload incoming materials and move to storage locations.
- Assistance and Support: Assist higher-graded mechanics in more complex mechanical and building maintenance tasks as required.
- Education and Experience: Equivalent to 1 to 3 years of applied trades training, with over 1 year up to and including 3 years of effective experience.
- Work Schedule: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., with Saturday and Sunday off.
- U.S. Citizenship: Required.
- Security Clearance: Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation.
- Driver's License: Valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check required.
