POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Senior Polymer Scientist will engage in intricate and/or atypical research, development, and performance evaluation tasks to fulfill the objectives of the Technology Development division. This role emphasizes leveraging theoretical frameworks and mechanisms to foster innovation. The individual may serve as the primary or technical project leader, guiding the efforts of other technical team members involved in the project. Exceptional communication and presentation skills are essential, as the role often entails managing multiple projects of varying complexities simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee and/or conduct formulation, synthesis, and/or testing operations to achieve defined project goals. Demonstrate effective leadership in the Afton Product Development Process. Develop strategies, testing protocols, and timelines to ensure project completion.
  2. Gain a comprehensive understanding of lubricating oil performance, including establishing structure/function relationships of components, reaction kinetics, dose-response relationships, and other mechanistic tools to enhance product knowledge. Utilize this mechanistic insight to design and synthesize novel components, and proficiently characterize these components using standard analytical methods, including NMR, MS, and spectroscopy.
  3. Analyze and interpret data, performance metrics, and deliverables. Provide informed recommendations to R&D and project leaders regarding outcomes, deliverables, progress, and challenges. Identify and mitigate obstacles to successful project execution. Undertake special projects as assigned.
  4. Engage in technical and/or project reviews and present findings as appropriate. Collaborate with assigned teams and cross-functional stakeholders, including business, process, and marketing teams. Contribute to shaping future directions.
  5. Execute complex analytical testing procedures, conduct thorough analysis and interpretation, and deliver detailed and accurate test reports to clients in a timely manner. Scrutinize all test/project data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and validity of conclusions.
  6. Compile data, finalize interpretations, and prepare written test reports. Consult with clients as necessary to review and clarify results, provide insights, and ensure project objectives are met.
  7. Independently lead or direct specialized research initiatives. Supervise technical activities and/or manage technical team members assigned to the project.
  8. Understand, adhere to, and advocate for safe laboratory and workplace practices, including relevant safety regulations and protocols.
  9. Ensure comprehensive documentation is maintained concerning ISO or Quality System-related activities. Participate in Quality System initiatives and keep abreast of Quality System functions and responsibilities.
  10. Represent Seneca Resources at technical conferences, professional societies, and other industry events. Maintain a sufficient level of technical expertise and pursue self-development through study, seminars, etc. Stay informed about advanced developments within and outside of Seneca Resources.
  11. Engage in intellectual property activities as required, including competitor analyses, freedom to operate assessments, patent applications, invention disclosures, etc.
