Job Title: Direct Support Professional

At Andrus Childrens Center, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our team. As a key member of our residential care team, you will play a vital role in providing a safe, supportive, and therapeutic living environment for children in our care.

Job Summary:

The Direct Support Professional will be responsible for providing close supervision, counseling, and support to children during all cottage-based activities. You will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to plan and implement individual and group initiatives to build children's skills and self-esteem. Your primary focus will be on ensuring the basic needs of children are met, and the cottage is maintained in a safe, orderly, predictable, therapeutic, structured, and clean condition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assure the safety of each resident and the cottage community
  • Actively supervise residents at all times, based on their age and level, to ensure everyone's safety
  • Enact the program schedule as written and on time
  • Use all aspects of Sanctuary in the care provided
  • Use all aspects of trauma-sensitive care in the services provided
  • Use all techniques of TCI to prevent triggering, intervene early to prevent escalation to crisis, manage any crisis that arises, and ensure safety and learning after any crisis
  • Use the scan system to record consistent monitoring by conducting visual checks of residents every 15 minutes during the shift
  • Document work in a clear, timely manner with scanning, nightly logs, round-up, census, and other reports
  • Establish safety within the cottage
  • Communicate consistently with colleagues and residents through established systems set forth by manager/department

Qualifications:

  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (in-service trainings are mandatory)
  • Minimum of HS diploma (or equivalent) plus one year of experience working with children or adults with developmental or behavioral disabilities
  • Computer proficient and navigate Microsoft Office suite
  • Multi-lingual a plus
  • Driver's license, in good standing preferred
  • Ability to access and utilize ADP on smartphone or other device for access to agency programs

Physical/Travel Requirements:

  • Candidates who are successfully hired must participate in our Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training, which concludes with a written and verbal test, and will be evaluated on conducting a proper physical restraint
