Job Title: Direct Support Professional

At Andrus Childrens Center, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our team. As a key member of our residential care team, you will play a vital role in providing a safe, supportive, and therapeutic living environment for children in our care.

Job Summary

The Direct Support Professional will be responsible for providing close supervision, counseling, and support to children during all cottage-based activities. You will work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to plan and implement individual and group initiatives to build children's skills and self-esteem.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assure the safety of each resident and the cottage community
  • Actively supervise residents at all times, based on their age and level, to ensure everyone's safety
  • Enact the program schedule as written and on time
  • Use Sanctuary and trauma-sensitive care principles in the services provided
  • Use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques to prevent triggering, intervene early to prevent escalation to crisis, and manage any crisis that arises
  • Use the scan system to record consistent monitoring by conducting visual checks of residents every 15 minutes during the shift
  • Document work in a clear, timely manner with scanning, nightly logs, round-up, census, and other reports
  • Establish safety within the cottage, including physical, emotional, moral, and social safety
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and residents through established systems
  • Support the overall strategic plan of the organization
Requirements
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (in-service trainings are mandatory)
  • Minimum of HS diploma (or equivalent) plus one year of experience working with children or adults with developmental or behavioral disabilities
  • Computer proficiency and ability to navigate Microsoft Office suite
  • Multi-lingual a plus
  • Driver's license, in good standing preferred
  • Ability to access and utilize ADP on smartphone or other device for access to agency programs
Physical/Travel Requirements
  • Candidates who are successfully hired must participate in our Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training, which concludes with a written and verbal test, and will be evaluated on conducting a proper physical restraint
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, climb stairs, and lift weights of up to 30 lbs
