Role Responsibilities

The Home Loan Advisor is accountable for the origination of residential first mortgage and equity loans while engaging in associated business development initiatives. This role ensures that members receive high-quality mortgage loan origination services in alignment with VyStar's lending policies and procedures. The advisor will counsel members and gather necessary information to assess credit applications.

  • Travel to designated branch locations to originate residential mortgage loans and assist in marketing initiatives aimed at soliciting first mortgages and equity loans.
  • Conduct interviews with applicants to guide borrowers in selecting loan products that suit their individual needs. Clearly articulate loan options and provide counsel throughout the home financing process. Collect and analyze relevant financial and credit information, inputting data into the loan origination software.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with support staff regarding the status of each mortgage loan file and keep members informed.
  • After conducting pre-approval counseling, assign viable transactions to the appropriate mortgage loan officer partner.
  • Participate in branch sponsorships and sales meetings to foster new mortgage opportunities.
  • Coordinate and assist in branch seminars focused on first-time home buyers and other relevant topics.
  • Serve as the primary contact for members seeking information and guidance on refinance transactions, documenting all communications in the mortgage origination software.
  • Assist mortgage loan processors and closers in obtaining necessary documentation to facilitate a smooth loan process.
  • Make an effort to attend mortgage loan closings with members.
  • Review monthly production reports with management to ensure performance goals are met.
  • Promote VyStar's products and services through effective cross-selling techniques.
  • Support VyStar's mission to be the primary financial institution for our members by delivering prompt and courteous service.
  • Educate members about our products and services, which is essential for achieving our mission and goals.
  • Strive to meet personal performance targets by identifying opportunities for cross-selling and making referrals to other VyStar services.
  • Demonstrate VyStar's core values and excellence in service consistently.
  • Understand departmental and organizational goals, actively working towards their achievement.
  • Provide feedback on process improvements and efficiencies within the mortgage origination department.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of two years of experience in the mortgage, consumer lending, or commercial banking sectors. Candidates must pass National NMLS training and obtain the necessary licensing, maintaining annual education requirements. A valid driver's license is required. Strong self-discipline and goal orientation are essential, along with superior communication skills.

Familiarity with various loan types, including conventional, VA, FHA, and equity financing, as well as knowledge of mortgage lending regulations, is preferred.

Education Requirements

A minimum of a two-year college degree is required, with work experience potentially substituting at a rate of 2:1. Candidates must comply with all provisions of the Secure and Fair Enforcement of Mortgage Licensing Act and related credit union procedures.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and presentation skills, enabling effective interaction with members and potential clients to ensure efficient service delivery while adapting to changing policies and procedures.
