POSITION SUMMARY

The Quality Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring top-tier quality standards are met throughout the manufacturing process. This operational position involves inspecting incoming raw materials, monitoring in-process materials, documenting production activities, and verifying the quality of final products before they are dispatched to customers. Collaboration with various departments is essential to address and resolve quality-related challenges.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough inspections of products and production processes.
  • Perform both manual and automated quality assessments.
  • Maintain detailed records of any quality issues encountered.
  • Identify problems and implement corrective actions.
  • Comply with Astec's quality standards consistently.

Core Activities
  • Act as a quality technical advisor for manufacturing teams and field service personnel.
  • Collaborate with product teams to analyze systemic quality issues and assist in root cause analysis.
  • Review work orders to ensure compliance with manufacturing specifications.
  • Execute inspection criteria to uphold industry and Astec quality benchmarks.
  • Perform inspections at various stages: Receiving, In-Process, Final, and Functional.
  • Work with Fitters/Welders to address drawing or process changes impacting product quality.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement based on assigned tasks.
  • Update quality metrics and documentation regularly.
  • Support engineering teams as a primary responder to quality issues.
  • Prepare quality reports by analyzing and summarizing data on trends, recalls, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace by adhering to 6S principles.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by following all safety protocols, including OSHA guidelines.
  • Participate in weekly safety meetings.
  • Utilize histogram data to identify key issues affecting team performance.
  • Update controlled documents as necessary.
  • Track significant changes that impact quality metrics.
  • Conduct audits as required to ensure compliance with specifications.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • Associate's degree from a technical school is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Certification as a Quality Technician (ASQ) or similar credentials is desirable.
  • 4-6 years of experience in quality assurance within a heavy manufacturing environment, with a mechanical background in hydraulics, diesel engines, or electronics.
  • 1-3 years of experience with ISO or similar quality inspection standards.
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships with diverse personalities.
  • Consistent adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Capacity to learn quickly and adapt to fast-paced environments.
  • Proficient in documenting processes and procedures.
  • Effective communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities during the inspection process.

This role is situated in a manufacturing environment where exposure to mechanical parts, machinery, and various operational conditions is common.
