POSITION SUMMARY

The Quality Technician plays a crucial role in our operations, tasked with executing top-tier quality assurance functions. This includes, but is not limited to, inspecting incoming raw materials, monitoring in-process materials, documenting the batching, mixing, and manufacturing processes, and ensuring the final product meets quality standards before shipment. This role collaborates closely with various departments to address and resolve quality-related issues.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough inspections on products and production processes.
  • Implement both manual and automated quality checks.
  • Maintain detailed records of any quality issues encountered.
  • Identify problems and outline necessary steps for resolution.
  • Adhere strictly to Astec's quality standards.

Core Activities
  • Act as a quality technical advisor for manufacturing teams and field service personnel.
  • Engage directly with product teams to analyze systemic quality issues and assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Review work orders and supplements to ensure compliance with manufacturing specifications.
  • Execute inspection criteria to validate adherence to industry and Astec quality standards.
  • Perform inspections at various stages: Receiving, In-Process, Final, and Functional.
  • Collaborate with Fitters/Welders to identify any drawing or process changes that may impact product quality.
  • Identify and recommend actions for improvement based on task lists.
  • Update the Quality chart on assigned task lists on a daily basis.
  • Support Product, Manufacturing, and Quality Engineers as a primary responder to quality issues.
  • Prepare quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends related to quality performance.
  • Maintain a clean workspace by adhering to 6S principles to minimize safety risks.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by following all company safety protocols, including OSHA compliance.
  • Participate in weekly safety meetings.
  • Analyze histogram data to assist the team in identifying key issues affecting performance metrics.
  • Update controlled documents as necessary.
  • Monitor and enhance quality performance metrics, including first pass yield.
  • Track significant changes in products, documents, and processes that impact quality.
  • Conduct audits of employees, work centers, and individual pieces as required.
  • Perform process audits to ensure parts conform to specifications.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED, or a combination of education and experience deemed sufficient by management.
  • Associate's degree from a technical school is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Certification as a Quality Technician (ASQ) or similar professional credentials is desirable.
  • 4-6 years of experience as a Quality Technician in a heavy manufacturing environment, with a mechanical background in hydraulics, diesel engines, or electronics.
  • 1-3 years of experience with ISO or similar quality inspection practices.
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships and communicate effectively with diverse personalities.
  • Consistent adherence to established policies and procedures, exercising professionalism in all interactions.
  • Efficient and accurate work habits to meet production demands.
  • Capacity to learn quickly and adapt to fast-paced, changing environments.
  • Experience in documenting processes and attention to detail is preferred.
  • Able to follow verbal instructions, written procedures, and engineering specifications accurately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of interacting across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making during inspections to address quality concerns.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Manufacturing Setting
This role is situated in a manufacturing environment where exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools, and equipment is common. Employees may encounter vibrations, fumes, airborne particles, and varying weather conditions. The noise level can be high, typical of an industrial assembly facility, necessitating hearing protection.
