Position: HAZMAT Forklift Operator

Job Summary:

The HAZMAT Forklift Operator is responsible for operating standard and specialized Material Handling Equipment (MHE) to facilitate the movement, loading, unloading, stacking, and unstacking of various materials, including hazardous stock. This role may involve working in automated or non-automated warehouse settings, as well as open storage, receiving, or shipping areas. The operator will utilize automated systems such as computer terminals and barcode scanners to manage data effectively. It is essential for the operator to obtain and maintain an MHE license and demonstrate proficiency in equipment operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain and maintain MHE licensing and proficiency in equipment operation.
  • Follow work orders or verbal instructions to determine materials or containers to be moved.
  • Assist in receiving, shipping, storage, or issuing areas as assigned.
  • Load and unload materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, conveyors, and shelves using MHE or manual methods.
  • Transport materials from storage or work sites to designated locations.
  • Accurately count, weigh, and document the number of units moved or handled on daily production sheets.
  • Label materials with identifying tags or mark information on containers.
  • Prepare loads for transportation by Industrial Truck Operators.
  • Stack or assemble materials into bundles and secure them appropriately.
  • Lift objects manually or with power hoists, and maintain cleanliness in work areas and equipment.
  • Operate various equipment, including industrial trucks and warehouse tractors, to assist in material handling.
  • Ensure cleanliness of storage areas by operating warehouse sweepers as needed.
  • Handle hazardous materials in accordance with training and regulations.
  • Utilize Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and other government data systems to fulfill job requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Role:

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of OSHA compliance training and Hazardous Materials Preparer Certification as per relevant regulations.
  • High School Diploma or GED (experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis).
  • At least one year of relevant experience or training demonstrating required knowledge.
  • Minimum of one year of specific experience related to the skills, knowledge, and abilities outlined.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, and email software.
  • Strong teamwork skills and a positive attitude.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Capacity to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.

Certifications and Clearances:

No specific certifications required.

Security Clearance:

A SECRET Level Security Clearance is required. Candidates must either possess a current U.S. Government SECRET Personnel Security Clearance or be able to successfully complete a U.S. government-administered investigation. U.S. citizenship is mandatory, and the ability to maintain the SECRET clearance is essential.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this role require the ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers for handling objects, operate office equipment, reach with arms, climb stairs, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

The position is based in a warehouse/shop environment, involving repetitive motions and prolonged standing. The role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift 50 lbs overhead and/or repetitively. Occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions may be necessary.
